Unaccomplished or Successful

I launched my blog, I would say what feels like months ago and now I’ve lost track of where to begin or rather how to continue.  Since the launch, I’ve focused on family, friends, work, fitness, my passion project, travel, and dating.  With several ahhh haaaaaa moments in between where I’m like, “I need to write this somewhere.”  That thought would slowly fade away, usually into a new activity and/or adventure.  Needless to say I’ve been slightly preoccupied enjoying that thing called life.

Not only do I feel preoccupied but I’m feeling unaccomplished.  Have you ever thought to yourself where the heck does your time go.  One minute your setting goals, you can see them growing and slight improvements here and there – fast forward a few months later and your scratching your head wondering what is going on, “I can’t see my seeds that I planted months ago.”

I’m referring to my goals as seeds because of late, I’ve been telling friends to water their seeds.  A dear friend of mine introduced me to Louise Hay who writes about affirmations and how we need to plant a seed, water it, be patient, and it will grow.  This is true but sometimes when life takes shape we neglect said seed and/or plant and it’s difficult to recognize while the plant hasn’t sprouted, the roots are actually taking shape.

As I discovered the Mayan Underworld on my trip to Mexico, I found roots 60ft underground which didn’t exactly take shape over night.

So, a little perspective at the beginning of 2016 I set a few goals – let me share them as it may help keep me be accountable:

  • Mental Fitness aka Meditation
  • 30 minutes of daily exercise
    • 80/20 heathy eating
    • Learning new recipes
    • Cutting back sugar
    • Being aware of what’s in my food
    • Meal prepping
  • 2hrs weekly of the following
    • Reading
    • Writing
    • Passion Project (LLE)
    • Web Development
  • Sleep
  • Travel, dating, salsa, learn Spanish

Anything that’s scratched out woooo hooo I’m doing it, anything not scratched out means they are areas of improvement.  When you look at it and the grand scheme of things I’m not doing so bad.  I’ve accomplished more than 50% of my goals and we are half way through the year.  Why then do I feel like I’m not working hard enough??

BALANCE & PERSPECTIVE

When I was in college, one of my professors was adamant about being S.M.A.R.T. and if you are in your 30’s you’ve likely heard of S.M.A.R.T.

Setting Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely GOALS

Let me break down some reality for you:

In reality there are 24hrs a day and of those 24, we sleep 8hrs to be rested, leaving 16 hours to be awake, now subtract another 8 for work, we are down to 8hrs left for other stuff. So, now you can probably subtract another let’s  4hrs for things like commute, eating, showers, I don’t know doing your hair (clearly my own personal problem.. LOL), exercise, you are down to now 4hrs and this doesn’t include having any fun, family, or friends………. so, back to my point:

BALANCE & PERSPECTIVE

While you work on LIFE: The Perfect Plan Interrupted try to maintain balance in goals, living, laughter, dreams, loving, and maintaining your perspective.  You’re likely growing roots if you haven’t started to see your plant breakthrough the soil.

Now, if you dare – I would love for you to share one goal that you would like to accomplish in the next six months.  Small or big.  My goal that I’m going to work on for the balance of the year is getting 2hrs of writing/reading in a week.

(Yes, I’m still going to write cheesy questions at the end of my posts in hopes that someone will respond 🙂 )

    Love this post!
My goal for the next 6 months is to incorporate meditation on my daily routine. It is harder than it sounds as I have two young kids, I work full time and I’m already waking up at 5:30am every day to work-out! 🙂

Hi Marie! Thank you for your kind words – I know you are going to finish 2016 with meditation as part as your norm. The pyramids of Teotihuacan were not built in one day 🙂
Also, I think with your schedule, maybe shift your focus to one session of 30 mindful minutes a week. Just a thought, daily is possible but life happens so finding 30 minutes might be much easier, and better use of the time. Keep me posted!

Great post Keisha! You are always so thoughtful, poignant and genuine! My goal for the remaining 25 weeks left in 2016 is to give myself the gift of 1 hour per week of devoted “me” time.

Oh Kerrie!! You are so practical, here I am counting days – I love the idea of counting weeks, so much easier to figure out than what I’m doing. One hour a week is totally doable, please keep me posted on all of your findings.

Amazing post! This is so timely as I try to focus and write my goals out for my second half.
    1. Allow and enjoy an hour of nothingness at least once a week
    2. A focus wheel
    3. Learn to use my essential oils therapeutically to share with others
    4. 1 good new bottle of wine every 2-3 months! Better when shared…
    5. Try something new with my girls once a month.
    6. Stop to breathe, appreciate and enjoy my journey and practice gratitude for all that I have!

    Did you say 1 thing??? ; )

Girl, you are a universe rule breaking professional and I would not have expected anything else for you. This is an amazing list and I affirm you will be successful.
1 – Pick a day and add it as a reminder in your calendar, put it on repeat and try to practice, do it once, do it twice, do it successfully for the year and check this off your list even if it’s once!
2 – If it’s not done over the summer do it in September, September is good to sit and focus. Or, maybe make it a thing and do it with a like-minded girlfriend 😉
3 – This is an easy one, we are going to get this done!! I can’t wait!
      4 – Sign me up!
5 – That’ a great one, can’t wait to hear what you are planning for the rest of 2016
      6 – Breathe…… Ch’i is very important:)

Great post chica! 🙂 At the beginning of the year, a couple of my girlfriends and I each came up with a list of 16 goals to accomplish in 2016 (#16in2016). Not exactly in line with S.M.A.R.T. and admittedly hard to sustain the momentum. I have to say that I’ve tweaked my list to make it more practical (yet still challenging). At the moment, my three areas of focus are fitness, finance, and relationships. Within those areas, I’ve broken it down to short- and long (er) term goals. E.g. working out daily, eating breakfast and bringing lunch to work, cutting back on unnecessary expenses, saving up for a down-payment. Not the most exciting goals but I figure that they’re helping me create a foundation for the life I want – which includes financial freedom, living a healthy lifestyle, and enjoying more time with my loved ones. Essentially, no different than anyone else #adulting

Hey girl, thanks for sharing – love #16in2016 and hearing about your VERY EXCITING goals makes me think of tweaking mine. Mindfulness to want more out of this journey, this universe is EXTRAordinary. We sometimes minimize and think little of these things that are routine but when we lose sight of our goals, the journey to completeness or a the feeling of fulfillment hinders. Soooo kudos to you and #adulting 🙂
